What is the core of a braid?

The core of a braid is the cord located inside the outer sheath that allows the rope to remain round and reinforced. Independent from the outer cover, it can be manually removed. The core can be braided or parallel.

Parallel core: core made of aligned yarns. Not spliceable.
Braided core: core made of braided yarns. A braid with a braided core can be referred to as a “double braid”. Can be spliced.
A coreless braid is referred to as “hollow”.

Polypropylene is resistant to mites, bacteria, strong acids and alkalis and ordinary solvents. It is sensitive to aromatic compounds. It dissolves in chlorinated solvents at high temperatures.

A Garcette is a small synthetic rope with a diameter generally less than 5mm used to do all kinds of small work on a ship.
