History of the Dreamcatcher:

In Indigenous cultures, dreamcatchers are hung on the side where the sun rises, so that daylight can destroy the bad dreams caught in the beads and threads of the web.

Many legends from different tribes explain the origin and function of the dreamcatcher. They often share common elements: the dreamcatcher was given to humans through a dream, the spider—either as an animal or a deity—often appears, and the teaching of the dreamcatcher is passed on in return for protecting a spider, and so on.

Today, dreamcatchers can be found in the crafts of most Indigenous cultures of North America.

According to Huron culture, all humans are part of the Great Spirit, the creator of nature and humankind. The Great Spirit sends us dreams so we can better understand ourselves. Dreams are the vehicle through which humans and the Great Spirit communicate. In this culture, dreams express the needs of the soul.
